Indeed, our bodies do a natural job of clearing harmful toxins and allergens. However, occasional detoxification and cleansing can still need a boost with harsh, sticky toxins that refuse to leave. Various types of cleanses, from juice to fasting, detoxify our digestive systems; each type has its benefits.
A traditional Ayurvedic cleanse is called panchakarma. It lasts three to four weeks and is usually customized to the individual's needs by an Ayurvedic practitioner.
Embarking on an Ayurvedic cleanse at home is simpler than you might think. It involves clean eating during the first and last phases and a kitchen mono diet in the middle phase. Kitchari, a traditional ayurvedic dish, is made from basmati rice, split mung dahl beans, and ghee, along with ayurvedic detox herbs and spices. This cleanse supports your body's natural ability to cleanse the blood and liver and is gentle on the digestive tract.
Here are the three phases of the herbal and detox cleanse:
Step 1: Healthy Diet
The first phase involves adopting a preliminary gut cleanse diet. During the preparation stage, you should avoid meat, dairy, processed foods, sugar, caffeine, and alcohol and incorporate plenty of green foods such as vegetables, including leafy greens; this creates a healthy atmosphere for your biome and helps it clean better. Always stay hydrated during this phase. Water helps flush toxins from your body and helps your cells function optimally.
Step 2: Cleanse
During cleansing, you'll take the herbal supplement of choice and water. Incorporating yoga, meditation, and time outdoors during this period can help you deal with any emotions and cravings that may surface.
Step 3: Rejuvenate
Much like phase 1, you'll return to clean eating during rejuvenation. Slowly reintroduce foods, starting with steamed vegetables and then eggs and beans. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, meat, sugar, and processed foods during this last phase, and continue using detox herbs and water. Even add some green tea.
Perform a detoxifying cleanse at the beginning of the season or when you feel sluggish. You choose the length of the cleanse. For a 6-day cleanse, you'll do each phase for two days. For a 21-day cleanse, you'll do each phase for seven days.
